10. Disable Screen Savers
Screen Savers were created decades ago, but they are no longer needed. Screen savers were created to avoid a problem with old-style CRT (cathode-ray tube) monitors. The problem, called "burn-in", was caused when a computer and screen were left on without being used for long periods of time. Eventually, the image burns into the phosphors and its ghost is always visible (even when the power is turned off!)

Today’s LCD monitors are less susceptible to burn-in. We recommend that you disable screen savers because their operation can prevent the automatic system power management from taking place. The operating system’s power management only operates when the system is running idle. Some screen savers look like software doing real work.
Arguably they are doing real work: entertaining you while you stare at them. Screen savers with images of fish swimming by or a crackling fire in a fireplace have their place, and if that is what you like then you should of course use them.
