If you are still using Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors, consider replacing it with an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitor instead. On average, an old-style CRT monitors uses about 60 watts of power. LCD monitors, by comparison, use between 15 and 30 watts of power. This change can save you around $100 per year. This estimate is for monitors that are turned on only 40 hours per week. For monitors kept on 24x7, the savings are much much higher.

Energy-Efficient LCD Monitors
Today's LCD monitors are also much more energy efficient that old-style CRTs. Current LCDs have built-in power management which puts them into a low-power state after a time-out (a feature offered on very few any old-style CRT monitors). This means that your power savings are likely to be even higher than those quoted above.

Yet Another Benefit
You will be saving electricity, so do you need another benefit? (If you have read this far, then you must. Okay, here it is: LCD monitors are much smaller than CRT monitors. They occupy less desk space (and who doesn't need more desk space?). They also are lighter, and can be suspended above your desk. In this way, LCDs can be positioned in more ergonomically-friendly positions than CRTs. (And along the way, even more desk space is created.)
